Rationale Paragraph

My theme for my essay is the aesthetic quote by Bruno Munari about how art should or shouldn't be categorized. I've found this subject quite hard to summarise or form arguments as there are so many conflicting opinions and it is so broad. For my visual journal I have started it by keeping the ideas I try out quite open and strongly relating to the quote.

I've began with drawing a conventionally design piece and fine art piece to visually show the differences. I then simplified this from complete pieces to just focussing on line quality between the two different types, making design very bold and geometric/perfect and with fine art being more sketchy and tonal. I am now at the point where I have started making artwork putting both of these styles together to work in one piece.

I have only used pencil so far as this is the start of my journal and I don't want to overcomplicate the artwork this early on. I have chose to respond to my theme in this way as it visually explains what I've been writing about in my essay and makes it easily comparable.

Next I plan on including collage as a change of media and exploring new ways to make both art styles work together.
